Rachel Hunter

I started my here life in the great state of Michigan and although I left the state for a while, I've been back since 1993, and plan to never leave again. I was born in Bay City, and was put up for adoption. I was adopted by a wonderful couple from East Lansing (my mom and dad). Living in Michigan State University's back yard, I have vivid memories as a child of going to football games at MSU and my most vivid childhood memory is seeing a calf being born at the farm on the campus of MSU!!

My mom was a teacher, and my dad worked for the YMCA in Lansing. In 3rd grade, my dad was transferred to the YMCA in Hartford, Connecticut, so we packed up and moved to the east coast.

Well . . . to fast forward. After high school I attended college in New York, then went to the Connecticut School of Broadcasting and began working as an airborne traffic reporter on Hartford's WTIC AM 1080 in 1988.

I got married in March of 1993 to a wonderful man named Jay, who is from Boston. Jay works in the pharmaceutical industry and two months after we were married, he was transferred out of Connecticut. His company gave us a few choices of states where we'd like to move, like Kentucky, Alabama, Michigan, etc. Guess what? We chose Michigan!! I was really excited to return to the state where I was started my life.

We moved to Port Huron in July of 1993. I was soon hired as a traffic reporter here in Detroit and was heard on such stations as W-4 country, WJR, WWJ, WDFN, Lite FM, and others. I did traffic and news on 93.1 DRQ and eventually became the morning show co-host on DRQ where I have been for the past 7 years.

In the meantime, I had my daughter, Rachael, in 1994 at Port Huron Hospital. I loved starting a family back here in Michigan! In 1999, we moved from Port Huron to Novi. I remember being on the air the day Rachael started kindergarten, and now she's in the 6th grade!! Hard to believe how fast time flies!! She is the love of my life and some of my best times are spent on the sidelines at her soccer games watching her team play, which my husband coaches. She also takes hip-hop dance lessons.

My husband is a die-hard sports fan, so by default, I know a lot about sports too!! We are season ticket holders to the Plymouth Whalers who play at Compuware Arena in Plymouth. My husband, Jay, has been with Pfizer Pharmaceuticals now for over 10 years.

On April 1st, 2005, DRQ switched formats and became a radio station that is run by all computers. All of us who were on-air lost our jobs. Since April, I have spent a lot of quality time with my family and have enjoyed working as a "lunch mom" at my daughter's school and have accepted a co-chair position on her school's PTA committee.

In my spare time, I love to knit . . . although I only make scarves, but I can knit a mean scarf!!! If you'd like me to knit you one, I'd be happy to!! I also love to read, only fiction though. Danielle Steele and Jackie Collins are two of my favorite authors. I also love the sun!!!!

A few facts about me you probably don't know . . . .

*I have never found out who my birth parents are.
*I have three cats. One is 23 years old! (He’ll outlive us all!)
* My wedding in 1993 was canceled because of a blizzard, so we got legally married at our wedding rehearsal then re-enacted our wedding in front of our guests, three weeks later after we had returned from our honeymoon.
